Architecture has always been in my DNA. My father was a custom home builder, so I spent summers and any free time I had working with him. There, I had quickly learned every trade related to home building. I had always admired the captivating homes he built and I gravitated towards the design aspects of building.
I went on to study architecture at the New York Institute of Technology and the American Academy in Rome, Italy. Along the way, I found myself intrigued by the work of Paul Rudolph, a modernist master and the dean at Yale. After graduation, I camped out in front of Paul Rudolph's office in Manhattan for three days until he agreed to take a look at my portfolio -- he hired me that day. As my career progressed, I became a partner at Zachary Hagemann Architects and have been for over 25 years.
